Connect WhatsApp to Cursor
Cursor supports remote MCP servers with a URL and a header, so SheetWA connects without anything to install. Its agent can then use your WhatsApp Business API while you build: check templates, look up a customer or send a test message.
Add SheetWA once as a global server and it is available in every project you open.
Before you start#
- A SheetWA workspace with a WhatsApp number connected through the WhatsApp API.
- An API Growth or API Max plan, or the 7-day free trial.
- An MCP key from the workspace owner or an admin, made under MCP Server in the dashboard.
New to keys? See how to create one.
Add SheetWA to Cursor#
- 1Open Cursor Settings, then MCP, then Add new global MCP server.
- 2Paste this and save. SheetWA turns green when it connects.

"mcpServers": {
"sheetwa": {
"url": "https://backend.sheetwa.com/api/v3/mcp",
"headers": {
"Authorization": "Bearer sk_live_your_key_here"
}
}
}
}Replace sk_live_your_key_here with your key. The server URL is https://backend.sheetwa.com/api/v3/mcp.
Check it works#
- 1Open Cursor Settings and go to MCP. SheetWA should show a green dot and a list of tools.
- 2In chat, use Agent mode and ask: "Is my WhatsApp number connected?"
- 3Cursor asks before running a tool unless you allow it. Keep that on for tools that send messages.
Things to try#
- "Show my unread WhatsApp chats and summarise them."
- "Find contacts tagged VIP who have not messaged in 30 days."
- "Which of my templates are approved, and what placeholders do they need?"
- "How did yesterday's broadcast do? List the failed numbers."
Cursor picks the right tools on its own. See the tools.
If something goes wrong#
- The dot stays red or yellow
- Check the URL ends in /api/v3/mcp and the Authorization header has your full key.
- The agent never calls SheetWA
- Use Agent mode and mention WhatsApp or SheetWA in your request so it picks the right tools.
- Every call answers PLAN_LIMIT_REACHED
- MCP is included in API Growth and API Max. A workspace on API Lite needs to upgrade first.
